Orange County Small Claims Court

There are five different California small claims courts in Orange County.  One of the first decisions you need to make as a plaintiff in bringing a claim in Orange County Small Claims court is making sure you file the claim in the right courthouse.

Filing a Claim in Orange County Small Claims Court

Orange County sets hearing dates out from the date of filing anywhere between twenty and seventy days out from the date of filing.  Orange County also offers night court for small claims court cases.  However, you need to make the request for night court when you file your case.

Orange County Small Claims Court Self-Help Centers

The self-help centers are available at each location Monday-Thursday from 8:00AM-5:00PM and Fridays from 8:00AM-3:00PM.

Proper Venue in Orange County Small Claims Court

Orange County Superior Court has an information sheet to assist in filing your claim in the right courthouse.  Here is a link to the venue table in order to decide where your case needs to be filed.  The proper location for filing is any of the following:

• a defendant lives in the venue or a corporation or unincorporated association has its principal place of business
• a person was injured or personal property was damaged in the venue
• a defendant signed, entered into a contract, lives in the venue, or if defendant is a corporation, the contract was breached in this venue
• the claim is on a retail installment account or contract subject to Civil Code section 182.10
• the claim is in a vehicle finance sale subject to Civil Code section 2984.4

The Central Justice Center’s Small Claims Court Division can be reached at (657) 622-7553.  This location is the proper venue for the Cities of Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin, and Villa Park.

Harbor Justice Center – Laguna Hills Small Claims Court

The Harbor Justice Center’s Small Claims Court Division can be reached at (657) 622-8671.  A small claims plaintiff can file here if any of the above events happened in these cities or areas: Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, and San Juan Capistrano.
